The divine descent happened at Annakara near Guruvayur on the 14th August, 1929, into an aristocratic, affluent and respected family. She received Her education at the St. Joseph’s European Girls High School and the Holy Cross College at Tiruchi. Her communion with the Divine began from an early age. She had rare spiritual experiences and visions from the tender age of seven years.
At the age of eighteen she was married to Shri Paliath Divakaran Achan, eldest son of the Yuvaraja of the Cochin Royal Family. While living as an ideal grahasta – a loving, selfless mother and a devoted wife - She led a life of great austerity guided by the ideal that a householder was to be a sanyasin at heart. She performed intense spiritual sadhana, involving the severest tapas and continuous communion with the Divine, demonstrating to the world that one could live the life of a householder and yet be a Jivan Mukta, a liberated soul totally established in the Divine.
In 1972, She received a Divine Command to take Sanyasa and took Vidwat Sanyasa receiving the name of Sri Sathguru Swami Gnanananda Sarasvathi.
Sri Sathguru Maa passed into the ages in 2016.
After taking Sanyasa, Sri Sathguru established Sri Gnana Advaitha Peetam in September, 1976 with the following major objectives:
Sri Sathguru has striven for the renovation of old dilapidated places of worship, having great spiritual heritage, reviving their ancient traditions. Sri Sathguru has helped the poor, needy and destitute, transcending the barriers of caste, creed and religion.

Sri Sathguru has personally trained several Brahmacharis and householders, spreading the special message of total detachment and self-surrender. Tirelessly propagating the path of Saranagati, as taught in the Srimad Bhagavad Gita as being the most appropriate for the present age. In Her life journey, it was through discourses, interactions, Q&As and more...
You can’t expect God to be your servant. You are his servant
"This is what they call Saranagathi. It is called Surrender to God. You do your duty to perfection and then leave everything to Him. After that you should not worry. You should leave it to Him. And you find, He helps you and – He helps you so much that you yourself will be shocked. But unless you put yourself forward, and appeal to Him, nothing can happen. You can’t expect God to be your servant. You are His servant. That is something that you must understand."

Sri Sri Sri Vishnu Mohan was an example in many ways. Searching for knowledge, taking gurubhakthi to sublime levels, his life was always about surrender and samarpanam. Placing his everything at the lotus feet of his Guru, Her Holiness, Sri Sathguru Swami Gnanananda Sarasvathi he showed us the way, that seekers of true knowledge are blessed with humility and guru bhakthi.
A sadhaka and thinker, who experienced the eternal fountain of knowledge at the lotus feet of his venerable guru. He demonstrated through his short stay in the mortal coil, that a spirit of surrender to the Guru could transcend all difficulties in life and that self transformation was best attained by a spirit of respectful inquiry, systematic thought, deep humility and indomitable perseverance.
On Sri Sathguru Maa in his words, "The Messiah with Her Ark, Sri Gnana Advaitha Peetam, has come, and. like the postage stamp’s usefulness depending upon its ability to stick, our salvation depends upon our ability to stick like a limpet to it."
A reflective anthology of thoughts, experiences, anecdotes and memories about Sri Sri Sri Vishnu Mohan.
Before you say you have surrendered, you must really surrender. What do you surrender – nothing but your ego, that’s the false self, which is bringing all the trouble upon the world. And once you surrender, you will find how much of peace you get. And … you will be looked after so beautifully. But you must be worthy of it, you know. You can’t get something for nothing anywhere in the world. Nowhere in creation can you get it. Can you then expect it in the Spiritual life?
What is the meaning of the saying gnanam abheda darshan? Abheda darshan is when you are able to see God existing in everything. Then you know it is the same God or Brahman, whatever you call it, shining through all beings. When I went to the temple that day, I was so happy because I saw a donkey after a long time. It’s very difficult to see a donkey in the city! I was happy because I care as much for the donkeys and monkeys and squirrels as I do for my devotees who come to see me. Because I know that they are all the same Brahman. Inside them is the same Parabrahman, it is only that the shapes are different. This understanding is the basis of Vasudaiva Kutumbakam.
God realization is like a mountain peak. From the top you can see all the paths leading to it. All are arduous but all lead to the summit. Only people on the summit or who approach the summit know that all paths lead to it. It is the people at the foot of the mountain who fight over which path is superior.
If there is a big vessel the guru can pour plenty of water or nectar into it. But if the vessel is small, what can the Guru do? The Guru can pour only that much into it which it can hold. Your heart is the vessel. If you fill it with worldly things and worldly thoughts, there will be little place for God. Instead fill your heart with humble trust, faith and devotion to Him and then your surrender will become perfect. Divine experiences will follow.
Now whom does the Lord befriend – only those who are his bhaktha - true bhaktha - not so called bhaktha, but the real ones. Those who are totally dependent on Him – look upon Him as the greatest friend and help in every way. It is not so much in saying it but as in living it. It comes automatically to you, “Well, whatever happens, it may be my good or bad karma, but it cannot take place until God allows it”. He must approve it. All karma must generally take its course.
You see, when food is served, God serves it in different ways - one person gets it on a golden plate, he gets lots of sweet things and tasty things and all that; another man gets it in a poor leaf. Somebody gets it in a dhonai (leaf cup). He gets that. You get something else. That’s all there is to it. But then he must be satisfied with what he gets. And you, with what you get. Don’t look at someone else’s plate. Look at your plate and be happy that you got that. Your karma must have been such that you received what you did. Well, it doesn’t matter. What does it matter? You have got to finish the days that you have in this world: and whether you like it or not. But what matters is how you do it. Every day takes you closer to death. Nobody thinks of this. They think life is eternal and they will live in this world forever. That is the type of madness that has seized people
If God is happy I am happy...
